Domestic Violence Screening in Mediation: Certification Course

This training raises awareness of and presents techniques for screening for domestic violence in mediation practice.

Gain an understanding of the scope of domestic abuse and how it relates to mediation. Learn to identify potential domestic abuse in mediation clients. Discover potential safety issues for clients and mediators and skills to mitigate these issues. The instructor will provide screening tools and participants will learn how to implement these tools for the initial and ongoing screening of cases. This course is required for mediation certification at the JDR/Family court level in Virginia.

*This course is certified by the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia. However, mere attendance at this training does not guarantee successful course completion for mediation certification purposes. Suggested Prerequisite(s): Basic Mediation Training, Family Mediation

Mode: Interactive, Synchronous Zoom Meeting

Requirements: In order to participate in this online class you must have a computer with a camera and microphone as well as a strong, secure internet connection.

Trainer(s): Jamica Littles and/or Shannon Sneary Alabanza

Jamica M. Littles is a Fairfield mediator and training instructor. She also has served as an adjunct instructor for four years, teaching paralegals and first-year law students alternative dispute resolution skills, and she previously was a Volunteer Family Law Attorney negotiator with the D.C. Superior Court, assisting individuals as they resolved disputes involving child custody matters, parenting plans, dissolution of marriage, annulments, and equitable distribution of property. In addition to her roles at Fairfield, Jamica is an attorney for the federal government, and she is licensed to practice in the state of Florida and D.C.

**refunds minus 10% admin fee may be issued if cancellation is made at least 7 days prior to the training start date.

***no refund will be issued when cancellation is made within 7 days of the training start date, but the registration fee can be applied to a future training taken within 12 months.
