An engaging, practice-oriented training focused on learning skills of negotiation and conflict resolution and the mediation process.
Are you interested in helping people in conflict learn to resolve their differences? Do you want to learn about basic conflict approaches and communication skills to work with people in conflict? Discover the basic principles of negotiation and conflict resolution and the mediation process through interactive activities and practice mediation sessions.
*This course is certified by the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia. However, please note that mere attendance at this training does not guarantee successful completion of the course for mediation certification purposes. Prerequisites
There are no pre-requisites required to take this course, however, please note that in order to apply for mediation certification in Virginia one must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university OR request a waiver of this requirement. If you need to request a waiver, it is recommended that you do so before beginning the Basic Mediation course. If you have any questions about this process, please let us know prior to registration
Mode: Interactive, Synchronous Zoom Meeting
Requirements: In order to participate in this online class you must have a computer with a camera and microphone as well as a strong, secure internet connection.
If you miss any portion of this training, the trainer may not be able to provide you with a completion certificate. Any missed time must be approved by the FairField Center. If the time missed can be made up outside of class time, there will be a $75 charge per hour fee for one on one instructor time.
Trainer(s): Shannon Sneary Alabanza
Shannon Sneary Alabanza is a skilled conflict engagement practitioner and premier trainer. She brings over 25 years of experience in conflict intervention and holds a master’s degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. Her greatest interests focus on blending trauma informed practices with reflective and dynamic services and training.
Shannon has trained individuals and groups in communication and conflict resolution skills through multiple workshops, trainings, and presentations. In addition to being the Director of Training Programs at Fairfield Center, Shannon is an adjunct professor in both graduate and undergraduate classes in the study of negotiation, mediation, and facilitation.
Founded in 1982, the Community Mediation Center now doing business as the Fairfield Center, was the pioneering organization in Virginia offering professional conflict resolution and restorative justice services and training.
